WHERE I COME FROM
As a child whose family moved multiple times, there are special teachers who stand out in my memory. In addition to an excellent education, their love, care and support helped me become who I am today. In today's climate with so many changes, our schools need to be a consistent place of emotional and physical safety in the lives of Mississippi children. Supporting education and the children of our community is my way of honoring those who gave to me.
Education is Core
I believe that a strong and healthy public education system is vital to building a strong community. The school board is so very important as it distributes tax payer money, oversees the superintendent, approves policy, and advocates for legislation that strengthens our schools. So whether or not you are a parent or grandparent with children in Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District this election is an important one.
I have four children in the Starkville Oktibehha Consolidated School District—9th, 8th, 6th and 3rd grades. Both my husband, Todd, and I are graduates of Mississippi State University and made Starkville our home in 1999. Todd works as a professional engineer at Taylor Machine Works in Louisville, MS. I work for Starkville Counseling Associates as a Licensed Professional Counselor. We are happy to be raising our children in Starkville where they have always attended public school.
I have been active professionally in all of the schools in our county in multiple roles: as a crisis therapist working in community mental health, as a gifted education teacher, and as a therapist/interventionist with students that had emotional disabilities.
As a public school parent, I have been actively involved in the schools for the past 10 years serving in multiple roles with PTO including President at Sudduth Elementary for 2 years and Executive PTO President for 3 years.
I continue to actively advocate for public education and all students.
I believe strong public schools build a strong community. I am a leader who listens and believes that by bringing people together we can accomplish great things.
